The King’s Burden

I wore my armor without fear,
The road before me always clear.
I knew the price, I knew the fight,
I knew the wrong, I knew the right.

But now the sword lies by my side,
And every answer seems to hide.
The throne is colder than it seems,
The crown is heavier than dreams.

They bring me hunger, bring me war,
A hundred voices at my door.
One begs for mercy, one for grain,
Another calls for blood again.

I save a life, another pays,
I choose a road, another strays.
For every wound I try to mend,
Another waits around the bend.

Heavy is the crown that weighs upon me every day,
Every choice will save a life or take a life away.
I conquered every battlefield to claim this throne,
Only now I learn the hardest war is fought alone.

The sword was simple, sharp and true,
There was one thing I had to do.
But here I stand with empty hands,
And hold the fate of all these lands.

They praise the king, they curse his name,
They beg for peace, they call for flame.
And every night, when voices cease,
I wonder what became of peace.

Heavy is the crown that weighs upon me every day,
Every choice will save a life or take a life away.
I conquered every battlefield to claim this throne,
Only now I learn the hardest war is fought alone.

I gave my youth, I gave my blood,
I watched my brothers fall in mud.
I fought your wars, I held your wall,
And still you ask me for it all.

You want a king who cannot break,
Who never bends for mercy’s sake.
Then hear me now, beneath this crown:
This weight will never drag me down!

Heavy is the crown that weighs upon me every day,
Every choice will save a life or take a life away.
I conquered every battlefield to claim this throne,
Only now I know I need not bear this weight alone.

Heavy is the crown, but I will carry it with pride,
For every soul who trusts their fate to stand beside.
Let every scar remind me what I struggled for,
I conquered with the sword - now I must conquer more.
