Lyrics

A promise outlives death beneath the candles of an empty chapel.

The candles burned beneath the stone,
I stood in white, yet stood alone.
The chapel doors were opened wide,
But no one came to claim his bride.
The roses faded one by one,
Before the morning kissed the sun.

They whispered softly, "Time will heal."
But love was never taught to yield.

I still wear the dress you never saw,
Still hold the vows we never spoke.
Every night I wait beside the gate,
Where every promise came too late.
If you return, don’t fear my face,
I’ve waited here through time and grace.
One heart remained when all had died...
Forever yours, the ghost bride.

The seasons painted moss on stone,
Children grew and then were gone.
The old bell sang through rain and snow,
While I refused to let you go.
They spoke my name in quiet prayer,
Yet no one knew I still was there.

The wind still carried distant drums,
As if your footsteps yet would come.

Tonight I heard a gentle voice,
Calling softly through the rain.
Not from the road I watched for years...
But from beyond my pain.

I turned at last...
And there you stood.
No older than the day we dreamed.
You smiled and reached your trembling hand,
As dawn broke through the trees.

I laid the flowers at my feet,
And left the veil upon the stone.
No longer bound to empty years,
No longer standing here alone.
The bells were ringing far above,
Not mourning now, but blessing love.
Together now where light abides...
No longer just the ghost bride.

The chapel sleeps beneath the sky,
But love was never meant to die.
