Rust and Roses
09 / Eleven stories
Lyrics
Follow every word from the ninth chapter of the album.
Morning light on leaves of green,
The fairest sight I’ve ever seen.
Every rose I planted grows,
Every winding pathway knows.
My armor rests beside the wall,
Silent in the garden hall.
Some men dream of swords and flame,
I’d rather know each flower’s name.
The castle bells begin to chime,
They call my name one final time.
I brush the garden from my hands,
And ride to serve my king’s commands.
Rust and roses, side by side,
One for peace and one for pride.
I fight so spring can bloom again,
Not for glory, not for fame.
When the battle’s lost and won,
I’ll come home with morning sun.
I’ll sheath my blade at break of dawn,
And tend my roses back at home.
Every season shapes the land,
More than any warrior’s hand.
Roots grow stronger, branches rise,
Patient work earns richer prize.
Still the kingdom needs my blade,
When the darkest plans are laid.
So I saddle up once more,
To keep the wolves from every door.
Rust and roses, side by side,
One for peace and one for pride.
I fight so spring can bloom again,
Not for glory, not for fame.
When the battle’s lost and won,
I’ll come home with morning sun.
I’ll sheath my blade at break of dawn,
And tend my roses back at home.
Let others chase the crown above,
I fight for fields, for home, for love.
The finest prize I’ve ever known
Is seeing roses gently grown.
Rust and roses, side by side,
One for peace and one for pride.
I fought so spring could bloom again,
Not for glory, not for fame.
Now the battle’s lost and won,
I’m back home with morning sun.
I’ve sheathed my blade at break of dawn,
To tend my roses back at home.
